THE VINEYARDS
Poggio di Sotto’s genetic biodiversity poses the challenge of understanding the vineyards.
This has materialized in an ambitious project involving massal selection that has been conducted in collaboration with the University of Florence since 2014. Maturation curves and physico-chemical analyses have allowed for the classification of Sangiovese biotypes used as the genetic “foundation” for the propagation of new plots. Today, the majority of new plants on the estate come from massal selection of native biotypes that have demonstrated remarkable enological results.

The geological kaleidoscope of the soils and Sangiovese’s abundant clonal biodiversity come together to make Poggio di Sotto a unique reality in Montalcino.
Hence, winegrowing cannot be standardized, let alone guided by protocols. Rather, it's an ever-changing art, a dynamic adaptation to the needs of each plot, row by row, plant by plant. An almost spiritual connection with the inner soul of the vineyard, where every detail, nuance and angle are thoroughly examined. A direct bond between the «essence of the vineyard» and the «winemaker’s expertise», which is expressed through constant tastings, ongoing analytical investigations and, most importantly, presence in the field.

The chosen Brunello
Poggio di Sotto's Brunello “rises” by itself, as if possessing a soul of its own.
Operations in the cellar have the sole objective of enhancing that very soul, rediscovering a genius loci that guides the winemaker's choices and requires utmost respect during the winemaking process.

In Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the most suitable area for the production of Brunello di Montalcino, Poggio di Sotto captures the noblest essence of Sangiovese.
An exemplary estate that dedicates sheer effort to vineyard selection in order to grasp the quintessence of Tuscany.
More than 180 clones of Sangiovese thrive among the rows, unveiling a viticultural abundance open to infinite possible expressions. A winery that has chosen perfection as the only horizon for quality and has given birth to timeless and iconic Brunello di Montalcino labels that are among the most acclaimed by international critics.
Today, Poggio di Sotto embodies the denomination’s utmost expression of quality through wines endowed with extreme longevity and elegance, faithful to an uncompromising and timeless style.
